  • Governor Lee Signs Tennessee Disability, Aging Act Into Law

    NASHVILLE — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the Tennessee Disability and Aging Act, legislation that merges Tennessee’s Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) and Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD), creating a new Department of Disability and Aging (DDA). The bill received unanimous, bipartisan legislative support and was backed by numerous stakeholders.

    McKENZIE (April 9) — On Tuesday, the McKenzie Rotary Club welcomed two new members into the club. Bethel University men’s basketball coach Jeff Britt and paralegal Phoebe Presson were inducted by Club President Jason R. Martin, who explained the significance of Rotary locally and globally.

    HUNTINGDON (April 11) — After three rounds of meetings, the Carroll County Budget Committee is one step closer to setting the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget. Thursday’s meeting revisited several department budgets to address proposed expenditures along with adjustments to various line items.

    McKENZIE (April 10) — After four years of tighter shooting and selling dates on fireworks, the City of McKenzie rolled Ordinance 566 back to the original two-week window. After the first reading, Ordinance 566 allows the sale and shooting of fireworks beginning June 20 through July 5 and December 20 through January 1.

  • Commission Green Lights Paving Project

    HUNTINGDON (April 8) — On Monday, the Carroll County Commission met approving a significant paving project to be undertaken by the Carroll County Highway Department. Carroll County received a $3 million portion of the grant, $2,961,173 from the state with the county spending roughly $68,000. The Highway Department’s match was factored into the FY Budget 2023-2024.

  • The Dixie Receives Stand for The Arts Grant, Recognition

    Spectrum today announced The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center (The Dixie PAC) will receive $10,000 through the 2023-2024 Stand For The Arts Awards, a partnership with Ovation TV that recognizes local arts, cultural and educational organizations and programs. Since the initiative started in 2017, Ovation TV and Spectrum have given out 70 awards totaling $700,000 towards arts education.

    HUNTINGDON (April 12) — Students with intellectual disabilities from the county’s five special school districts displayed their prowess in sporting events during Special Olympics held at Huntingdon’s Paul Ward Stadium on Friday, April 12.

    TREZEVANT (April 14) — Trezevant is proud of its new performance stage, playground equipment that complements its walking track, picnic pavilion and baseball fields. On Sunday, April 14, city officials and area citizens were in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Trezevant Community Park, adjacent to West Carroll Elementary School.

    Domestic Assault — Dennis L. Pruitt, 50, of Hollow Rock, was arrested on April 9, for Domestic Assault. The sheriff’s department was dispatched to a home in Hollow Rock for a domestic situation when upon arrival the victim’s brother stated that they were in the back room yelling at each other.

    Driving on Revoked, Speeding — Amber M. Hillard, 36, of Huntingdon, was arrested on April 7, for Driving on a Suspended License. Officer Townes initiated a traffic stop when the radar picked up Hilliard driving 72 in a 55-mph speed zone. A computer check confirmed Hillard had a suspended license.

    CARROLL COUNTY — Eleven high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test. The Carroll County Chamber hosted a luncheon on April 15 at Mallard’s Restaurant to honor the students.
