NASHVILLE (December 2023) — A long-range study authorized by the State of Tennessee indicates Amtrak could have a new route through West Tennessee including Carroll County and eventually connect Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga in Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. A $500,000 federal grant funded the study by Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR). more

PARIS (December 18) — On Monday, Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway announced TDOT has given the county the green light on the five-lane expansion of HWY 614 from the state line to Puryear. He said the five-lane has been approved and is in the 10-year plan for Henry County. “Everyone knows how hard we worked for this and now we’re finally on the way,” he said. more

January Deep Freeze Closed 2022 Year Some Tennessee residents received the white Christmas they had in their letters to Santa. Freezing temperatures along with snow and ice put a damper on the holiday as TVA and local electric municipalities participated in scheduling rolling blackouts. Carroll County was to be included but the blackouts were short lived in the county. more

NASHVILLE (Dec. 20, 2023) — Three finalists have been selected for the next president of Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Henry/Carroll. All three will participate in public interviews on the campus in Paris, TN, on Jan. 9, 2024, the next step in the selection process. more

December 31, 2023, will be her last day as president and Preston Frazier will move into the role. MAYFIELD (December 18) — After 24 years, the remains of a man found in Lake Barkley have been identified as Roger Dale Parham, a fugitive wanted for rape in Arkansas. In May 1999, fishermen on Kentucky Lake dredged a man’s remains. According to officials with the Kentucky State Police, the body was “wrapped in heavy tire chains and anchored with a hydraulic jack.” more
WASHINGTON, DC — The United States Postal Service announced today that it has delivered more than 270 million COVID-19 test kits to American households as part of President Biden’s plan to distribute free at-home tests to Americans for free. The Postal Service reported over 68 million test kit packages (with four tests per kit) have been shipped to American households across all states, Tribes and territories; each package contains four individual test kits. On average, it takes just 1.2 days for the Postal Service to deliver a test kit package once it has been received from the manufacturer, kitted and entered into the mailstream. On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Postal Service delivered over 6 million COVID-19 test kit packages — the highest single day volume delivered since shipping began at the end of January. “There are few assignments the Postal Service has received that better exemplify our public service mission than the request of the Biden Administration to deliver America’s COVID-19 test kits,” said Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Lou more
