McKENZIE (July 22) —The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) held its first public block party Friday, July 22. On campus, students, visitors and their families enjoyed activities including bowling, ring toss, a photo booth, a cake walk, golf, campus tours and a bake sale.

Sad Cake
4 eggs
1 box light brown sugar
2 cups bisquick
3/4 cup oil
1 cup coconut
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup pecans
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 small can evaporated milk
Mix and bake in 9x13 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

The Inglenook Book Club met July 13 at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 17 members in attendance. The meeting was called to order by President Carolyn Moore who opened with thanking our hostesses Zia Locke and Gayron Lyles for serving delicious pound cake, chocolates, and assorted beverages. The tables were decorated with red, white, and blue decor.

Average gasoline prices declined in Jackson in the last week, averaging $3.819 per gallon July 24, according to GasBuddy’s survey of stations in Tennessee. Prices in Jackson were $4.556 per gallon a month ago and $2.767 per gallon one year ago. The national average price of regular gas has declined by 20 cents in the last week and stands at $4.327 per gallon.

NASHVILLE (July 21) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is soliciting public comment on a Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission proposal to create a 900-acre waterfowl refuge at Big Sandy WMA. If implemented, the refuge would be closed to all access from November 15 through February 12, 2023.

Whether they choose to learn in-depth about what it takes to rear a calf or colt, how to manage and coordinate a garden or how to research and present a first-rate presentation, the 4-H project portfolio represents a tremendous effort on the part of senior 4-H students. Now they can get college credits for their work.

The Farmers Market had an abundance of fresh tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupes, onions, squash, zucchini, carrots, and cucumbers. However, it sold out fast. If you are interested in produce, be sure to arrive early.

The 2022 session of McKenzie High School Band Camp was July 11-15 for percussion and color guard students and July 18-22 for all members. The camp lasted from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day, with the band practicing outside in the mornings and inside during the afternoons.

Chick-fil-A celebrated its ten-year anniversary July 19 with a little help from Sweet Jordan’s and the Snack Shack food trucks parked outside of Bethel University’s Vera Low Center. The celebration was from noon until 5 p.m.
