McKENZIE (APRIL 11) — The annual McKenzie Middle School Honors Banquet was Tuesday, April 11 in the school’s gymnasium. Honorees were treated to a meal sponsored by the McKenzie Rotary Club. more
McKENZIE (April 4) — One hundred-thirteen students were honored during the 38th annual Honors Banquet hosted by the Rotary Club of McKenzie. The students, grades 9 to 12, were seated at floor level at the McKenzie High School Gymnasium while their parents and friends were seated on the home side in the bleachers. more
ATWOOD — The West Carroll Special School District school board voted unanimously to increase safety measures and hire an additional school safety officer during their meeting Thursday night, April 6. more
McKENZIE (April 4) — Lynn Watkins, director of McKenzie Special School District, is retiring on June 30. During the April 4 meeting of the Board of Education, Watkins offered to serve as a consultant to the yet-to-be-selected director of schools, whose term of office begins July 1. more
Lifeline Blood Services collected 47 units of blood during the McKenzie High School Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 29. more
GUATEMALA CITY — Six Bethel University students helped ensure Guatemalan children had healthy smiles March 5-11 as part of a Global Studies collaboration with Cumberland Presbyterian missionaries. Led by Stacie Freeman, director of Bethel’s international outreach, and fellow co-founder of a new nonprofit for student-staffed travel service projects, Julie Hill, the trip included a mix of compassionate ministry and culture-sharing. more
CARROLL COUNTY (April 3) — Twelve high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test. The Carroll County Chamber hosted a luncheon on April 3 at Mallard’s Restaurant to honor these students. more
Bethel University sophomore Gracelyn Eaves is one of 15 students from NAIA and NCCAA colleges across the country selected to participate in the Red Cross Leadership Program for 2023. more
McKENZIE (MARCH 22) — The number of candidates for the director of McKenzie Special School District was narrowed to five from seven during the March 22 workshop meeting of the Board of Education. Seven candidates were individually interviewed in a brief 15- to 30-minute interview in front of the seven members of the Board. more
HUNTINGDON — Twelve students - freshmen from the schools in Carroll County participated in four Saturday morning sessions with emphasis on STEM - Science, technology, engineering and mathematics, from 9 a.m. until noon, beginning on January 21 and concluding on March 4. more
McKENZIE — A team of 25 students from Bethel University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program, along with four Bethel employees, recently returned from a week-long medical mission trip in Belize. more
McKENZIE (March 7) — Twenty-five McKenzie High School students were allowed to tour the Cachengo facility at the former hospital building in McKenzie. The students were invited to the facility by Cachengo CEO, Ash Young. Members of the Young family and technicians of Cachengo explained the technology company’s mission of providing high-end data storage systems to meet global demands for Edge Computing, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by replacing the over-use of single, large CPUs with several smaller ones, embedded in each drive to perform localized computing where the data actually sits. more
Liberty Dyal, a freshman at McKenzie High School, is a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders scheduled June 21-23 on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus, just outside Boston. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The purpose of this event is to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country interested in these careers, to stay true to their dream and, after the event, to provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goal. more
McKENZIE — Three Bethel University students majoring in sports management have qualified to compete in the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship and Conference (NCSSC) Feb. 27-29 in Atlanta. more
On Wednesday, February 22, McKenzie Middle School held an African-American History Program. Sixteen students presented information about African American’s contributions to the past and present. The focus of the event was the accomplishments of: Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Dr. King, Maya Angelou, Madame C.J. Walker, Robert F. Smith, Bobby Marshall, Fritz Pollard, Bobby Marshall, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and the recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Rap. more
MARTIN — The Master of Business Administration program at the University of Tennessee at Martin provided fall 2022 students the opportunity to work directly under the owners and managers of local businesses as outside consultants through the Management 790 Consulting Project class. Student teams used all MBA competencies such as data gathering, analysis, interpretation, critical and creative thinking, and decision making when executing the project. more
ATWOOD (February 9) — The West Carroll Special School District school board celebrated the district’s Beta Club members for placing in the Tennessee state competition during their meeting Thursday night, February 9. Board member Keith Murray was absent for this meeting. All school board meetings are open to the public. more
The West Carroll Junior/Senior High School Beta Club members competed in various academic, individual, and team competitions during the 2022 Tennessee State Beta Convention held on November 22. more
McKENZIE — Wade Comer Stadium is the proposed name for the unnamed McKenzie High School Football Stadium, located behind the McKenzie Middle School. more
