Westview Sweeps Rebels in Home/Away Series

McKENZIE/MARTIN (April 15-16) — McKenzie High School was swept in a pair of non-district baseball contests against Westview last week. Thursday, the Rebels hosted and tied the game going into the sixth, but the Chargers had a big inning to claim an 11-6 victory. Friday, Westview hosted and took an early lead for a 10-2 win.
In Thursday’s game, McKenzie struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Chargers responded with five in the top of the second. The Rebels scored a run in the home half. Westview added a run in the top of the third, and McKenzie cut the deficit with three in the bottom half. The Rebels plated the tying run in the fifth, but the Chargers pulled away with five in the sixth.
Rebel Jake McDaniel went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Jackson Cassidy was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Hayden Hixon went 3-for-4. Brandon Boaz went 3-for-5. Eli Surber was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Collin McLearen went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Phillip Smith was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Zayden McCaslin went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Ethan Travis was 1-for-5 with a run scored.

Hayden Hixon took the loss for McKenzie, allowing eleven runs (eight earned) on eleven hits while striking out one and walking four in five and two-thirds innings. Phillip Smith threw the final inning and a third, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two and walking one.
In Friday’s contest, Westview took a quick lead with four runs in the bottom of the first. The Chargers added another in the third and three more in the fourth. Both teams plated a pair in the sixth.
Rebel Zayden McCaslin went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Jake McDaniel was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Ty Anderson and Jackson Cassidy were each 1-for-3.
Braden Birmingham took the loss for McKenzie, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits while striking out one and walking one in two and a third innings. Brandon Boaz pitched the final three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out two and walking one.
