McKENZIE, Tenn. - Mrs. Juanita Elinor Finley, 92, a retired school teacher for the City of Memphis Schools, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at her residence.

She taught school for over 40 years, beginning in 1952. Remedial reading was her main subject. 

She was born on August 4, 1929 in McKenzie, Tennessee to Robert Newton and Jamie Kathlene Springer Brooks.

She was a member of McKenzie First Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school for over 30 years and was a member of the Care Group and Ignelnook Book Club.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John R. Finley in 2012, her brothers, Sammy Brooks, William Brooks, and Bobby Brooks. 

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Hardy P.) Griffith, a son, James Newton (Barbara Lanius) Finley, her grandchildren, Rachel Gilbert, Elicia Horne, Julie Walsh, Mason Griffith, and Michael Lanius; her great-grandchildren, Kalen, Sebastian, Anna, Jett, Holli, Sarah, Serenity, Levi, Troy, Brandon, and Sierra, also two great-great-grandchildren.

There will not be any funeral services at this time.  There was a large get-together for Mrs. Juanita’s birthday in August at First United Methodist Church-McKenzie.
