Farmers' Market News

Posted

Saturday was another great day at the McKenzie Farmers Market with over 250 customers visiting our great vendors. We are looking forward to some of our produce vendors being back at the market on Saturday, and we were glad to welcome some new vendors including the Memory Bears. These are a beautiful and memorable way to remember your loved ones or to remember favorite clothing of your children and grandchildren. Bring clothing, and other items in and a creative and unique bear is made from the items. Each is truly a work of art and makes a beautiful keepsake.

We also have crafters who make exquisite jewelry, baskets, macramé items, woven rugs, placements, and hand-painted birdhouses out of interesting gourds. It’s never too early to begin thinking about Christmas, and all of these would make great Christmas gifts.

Not only do we continue to have fresh produce, but we also have free-range eggs and antibiotic and chemical-free beef. Our bakers have an abundance of fresh baked goods including Italian bread, pita bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, and pies in addition to jams and jellies.

Saturday is Youth Activity Day when all children 4th grade and under are invited to participate in a Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt. Prizes will be given to the winners. The event begins at 10 a.m.

You will want to be sure to save the date for the Bee Keeping workshop Saturday, August 28, at 10 a.m. Randy McCadams will teach us all about starting Bee Keeping as a hobby or as a lucrative business.

Another date to save is for the “Sweet Tea and Southern Pickins Festival” September 24-25. McKenzie will have about 800 participating booths both inside and out with vintage items, treasures, and oddities. In addition, there will be plenty of mouth-watering food, topped off with great music and of course sweet tea. The Farmers Market will also have some great music and activities on Saturday during our market hours. This is a perfect time to go through your attic and garage for vintage items you might want to sell in a booth. Call City Hall at 731-352-2292 for details.

The Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-NOON and Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m.
